How to take great food photos with your phone
You do not need a photographer. Daylight, the right angle and a clean lens make your phone photos look like your food tastes.

Step by step
- Use window light. Put the plate near a window in the daytime. Turn off the flash and the yellow kitchen lights.
- Pick the angle for the dish. From above for bowls, pizza and plates; from the side for burgers, drinks and stacked food.
- Clean the lens. Wipe it with a soft cloth. Kitchen phones get greasy and photos get hazy.
- Keep the background simple. A plain table, a wooden board. Remove napkins, bottles and phones.
- Shoot it fresh. Steam, sauce and crisp edges look best in the first minute.

Questions owners ask
Should I edit food photos?
A little brightness is fine. Do not change the colors of the food; guests should get what they saw.
Portrait mode or not?
Portrait mode can blur the background nicely for single dishes. Use normal mode for tables and groups.
