How to show up in “near me” searches

When someone searches “pho near me” or “tacos near me”, Google shows a map with three places first. Those three get most of the orders.

Step by step

  1. Match what guests search. Your category, your description and your menu should name the food guests search for: pho, birria tacos, boba, dumplings.
  2. Complete your listing. Hours, photos, menu, website and an Order button. Complete listings are easier for Google to show.
  3. Earn steady reviews. Recent reviews that mention your dishes help Google and guests trust you.
  4. Make your website agree. The same name, address and hours, plus a page for each popular dish with your town in the title.
  5. Check where you rank. Search from a few spots around your restaurant, or run the free check, which runs eight real searches near you.

What Google looks at

Google describes three things for local results: relevance (does your listing match the search), distance (how far you are), and prominence (how well known you are, from reviews, links and more). You cannot move, but you can work on the other two.

EatFuti is in Des Moines, Iowa, and works with independent restaurants across the United States, most of all in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas and Texas.

  2. Say yes. Send your photos and menu, or we take the menu from your POS or online. Online ordering is live 48 to 72 hours after signup.
  3. Your website goes up. Built for you from your photos, menu and reviews, right after ordering is live. You approve it before it goes up.

Questions owners ask

Why does my competitor show up and I do not?

Often their listing names the dish, has more recent reviews, or their website matches the search better. The free check shows the places ahead of you.

Can I pay Google to rank higher on Maps?

Ads can appear above the map results and are marked as ads. The regular results cannot be bought.
